Undergraduate students from CSAFE partner institutions and other universities across the country have joined our team for a 10-week research experience for undergraduates summer internship program at Iowa State University and Carnegie Mellon University. Pursuing degrees in forensic science, criminology and related disciplines, our new students have the opportunity to address critical, long-term, national needs in forensic science alongside CSAFE expert statisticians and scientists.
Participants will spend the summer devoted to discovering how statistical and computational concepts apply to one of CSAFE’s key research areas in pattern or digital evidence. Combining classroom training with hands-on research projects, students will work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams with faculty and graduate students. Seminars, short courses, research tours and field trips will add to the educational experience, with the summer culminating in university wide research symposium where students will present their research findings.
Educating the next generation of forensic scientists is central to the CSAFE mission, and our team looks forward to mentoring these up and coming leaders over the summer.
