The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) researchers and staff will attend the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) annual scientific conference. The conference will be held Feb. 19-24 in Denver, Colorado.

CSAFE will be at booth 505 in the Exhibit Hall starting on Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 23. Visitors to the booth will learn about CSAFE’s online learning platform, CSAFE Learning, and enroll in new courses and learning opportunities. Additionally, interactive demonstrations will allow visitors to preview various types of learning materials.

CSAFE researcher Adele Quigley-McBride, assistant professor at Simon Fraser University, will be a panelist for the plenary session, “The Intersection of Science and Justice: Does Forensic Science Have a Role in Ensuring Justice for All?” The plenary session will be held Feb. 21 at 10-11:30 a.m. MST. Quigley-McBride will be joined by CSAFE advisory board member Sarah Chu, director of Policy and Reform at the Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo Law.

Hal Stern, CSAFE co-director and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor and Chancellor’s Professor of Statistics at the University of California, Irvine, and Jeff Salyards, CSAFE researcher, will be presenting the workshop “Statistics and Forensic Science: From Probability to Black Box Studies to Likelihood Ratios” on Feb. 20 at 8:30-4:30 p.m. MST. This workshop will consist of four 90-minute sessions covering probability concepts, forensic conclusions and black box studies, the two-stage approach to forensic inference and the likelihood ratio in forensic science.

Other CSAFE researchers will share the latest advancements in their research activities during the scientific and poster sessions. Below is the complete list of CSAFE presentations at AAFS 2024. An asterisk (*) denotes a CSAFE researcher, advisory board member or collaborator.
