Iowa State University Assistant Professor in Statistics and CSAFE researcher Dr. Danica Ommen won the 2017 International Conference on Forensic Inference CSAFE Stephen E. Fienberg Young Investigator award. Her presentation raised the question of if enough forensic evidence samples have been collected to provide a reliable value of evidence to the court system such as a Bayes Factor or approximate likelihood ratio. Ommen used this concept to discuss considerations for the size of forensic databases. This award encourages excellence in forensic statistics at an early stage of career development, as personified by the late CSAFE founding leader Stephen E. Fienberg.
