Shoeprints and Tread Marks, Training

CSAFE contributed to a new outreach effort in summer 2018 by participating in the Young Engineers and Scientists (YES) summer program at Iowa State University. Two high school students interested in statistics and data science were chosen to join CSAFE for a 6 week summer internship. The YES program was designed to offer students with little to no experience working a laboratory setting hand-on opportunities to discover how research is conducted. Under the mentorship of CSAFE researchers and graduate students, internship participants actively participated in data collection and analysis in CSAFE shoeprint research. Students learned various collection methods, and statistical applications to determining analysis results. As part of the program students also participated in weekly seminars and lunch and learn to increase exposure to new academic and career opportunities.
