The 12th International Conference on Forensic Inference and Statistics (ICFIS) will now be an online-only event, allowing participants from around the world to join and engage in discussions and knowledge sharing. ICFIS 2026 will be held Sept. 28-Oct. 2.

ICFIS 2026 provides researchers, statisticians and legal professionals a platform to share their work at the intersection of law and mathematical science. The conference is a key venue for presenting new inferential frameworks and advancing the statistical validation of forensic evidence.

The deadline for abstract submissions for presentations and posters has been extended to Aug. 17. All submissions will be reviewed by Aug. 31. Researchers can submit their abstracts through the form available on the ICFIS 2026 website.

The ICFIS 2026 Planning Committee welcomes abstracts on the following themes:

  • Predictive Inference
The application of predictive inference in any area of forensic science or the law.
  • Applications and Evidence
Topics may include trace evidence, pattern and impression evidence, digital evidence, medical evidence, case studies, sampling and experimental design, as well as new areas of application.
  • Statistical Foundations and Theory
Topics covering validation of methods, managing uncertainty, decision-making, causality and philosophical considerations.
  • Human Factors
Topics such as cognitive bias, communication, education, quality assurance and errors, reasoning errors, reporting, testifying and innovations in the field.
  • Forensic Algorithms and AI
Discussions on likelihood ratio systems, databases, data science, classification, clustering, estimations, machine learning and new methods for intelligence gathering.
  • Statistics and the Law
Combining evidence, activity level evaluations, legal reasoning (probabilistic approaches), the science of evidence and case modeling.
