This fall, the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) is offering two online short courses designed to introduce probability and statistics concepts to forensic practitioners. The short courses are free of charge, but registration is required.

Sampling for Forensic Practitioners
Session 1: Sept. 30, 2021 — 11 a.m.–1 p.m. CT
Session 2: Oct. 7, 2021 — 11 a.m.–1 p.m. CT
Sampling for Forensic Practitioners is a two-part short course focusing on populations, sampling frames, sampling methods and geometric sampling. The emphasis will be on understanding how these methods are used to aid and enhance current forensic science practices.
The course meets 11 a.m.–1 p.m. CT on Sept. 20 and Oct. 7. The two-hour sessions will be led by Alicia Carriquiry, CSAFE director and Distinguished Professor and President’s Chair in statistics at Iowa State University.

Statistical Thinking for Forensic Practitioners
