The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) is excited to announce the launch of “Forensic Stats 101,” a self-paced continuing education course. This course is designed for forensic science professionals to enhance their understanding of statistical principles applied to forensic evidence.
Led by CSAFE Director Alicia Carriquiry, Forensic Stats 101 addresses the core concepts related to probability and statistics and their application to today’s forensics issues. The course will equip learners with the knowledge to evaluate evidence effectively, understand its probative value and draw informed conclusions from forensic analysis.
The course is tailored to accommodate various levels of statistical knowledge, whether learners are new to statistics or looking to refresh their existing knowledge.
The course is divided into nine sections, each containing 2-5 recorded video lectures that last 45-60 minutes. Alongside the lectures, learners will complete ungraded quizzes and labs to reinforce their understanding. The course ends with a final exam to test what they have learned.
Throughout the course, learners will explore topics such as understanding the differences between populations and samples, assessing research designs in scientific papers and calculating minimum sample sizes for basic experiment designs and surveys. By the end, students will have developed practical skills to effectively apply statistical concepts and how to present results that are supported by statistical evidence.
“This unique educational opportunity is a part of CSAFE’s continued commitment to advancing the field of forensic science through enhanced training and resources,” said Anthony Greiter, CSAFE’s learning and development specialist. “Forensic Stats 101 offers important skills for forensic science professionals aiming to elevate their expertise in this evolving field.”
Enrollment for Forensic Stats 101 is now open, with course fees beginning at $500 per learner. For more information about the course and to register, please visit CSAFE Learning’s website.
