CSAFE Invites Students Interested in Forensic Science to Apply for Summer REU Program

Research Experience for Undergraduate Students

The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) is accepting applications for its summer research experience for undergraduate students (REU). The 2022 REU program will provide students with advanced research experiences in forensic science.

This year, CSAFE’s REU will return to an in-person program but will include a blended virtual experience. The REU will be held May 23–Aug. 5, 2022, with possible placement opportunities at Iowa State University, West Virginia University and the University of Pennsylvania. Students will participate in person at their respective host institution and will join large group meetings and experiences in a virtual space.

During the 10-week, immersive internship program, students will discover how statistical and computational concepts apply to CSAFE’s key research areas in pattern or digital evidence. They will work on interdisciplinary teams with faculty, graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.

Students chosen for the CSAFE REU program are expected to participate in program activities for approximately 40 hours each week and join in team meetings plus any other scheduled events. Students will present their research findings at the end-of-program poster session.

Applications for the 2022 REU will be accepted until all available spaces have been filled. To guarantee an application is reviewed, please apply by March 1.
