CSAFE Co-Director Appointed to New Role at University of California, Irvine

ICS dean Hal Stern is known for his statistically based opposition to the Bowl Championship Series football rankings: "They came up with a system to identify the two best teams, but they keep changing the rules. They don't have real criteria for what it means to be the best."

Congratulations to CSAFE Co-Director Hal Stern on his new position at the University of California, Irvine. Effective September 1, Stern will assume his new role as Vice Provost for Academic Planning.

A founding chair of the UCI statistics department and longstanding professor, Stern contributes expertise in Bayesian methods, model assessment techniques and causal inference to CSAFE research.

CSAFE looks forward to Stern’s continued leadership at the Center and we hope you will join us in extending best wishes for his new position.
