CSAFE invites researchers, collaborators, and members of the broader forensics and statistics communities to participate in the August Center Wide Webinar on Wednesday, August 22 at 11:00 am CST. We will have a short introduction from CSAFE Director Alicia Carriquiry followed by the presentation “Toward a Sociology of Forensic Statistics” by Dr. Simon Cole, CSAFE researcher and professor of criminology, law and society at University of California, Irvine.
Please register for the event by clicking the button above. Participating instructions will be sent to registered participants via email prior to the event.
This webinar will be a broad overview of an area of research, rather than a focused research presentation. The webinar will briefly introduce the discipline of sociology of science and then describe findings that have emerged from work in this discipline that has focused on forensic science, and, more specifically, forensic statistics. It will then discuss what a sociology of forensic statistics might look like. It is hoped that this webinar will be helpful for statisticians and others seeking to foster applications of statistics in forensic science by helping them better understand the organizations (e.g., forensic laboratories) which they are seeking influence.
